This code indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detected an improper shutdown during its previous cycle. When the ignition key is turned off, the ECU requires a brief period of unswitched battery power to save data and complete its internal 'self-test shutoff path'. If the ECU loses power while the engine is running, or if the power is cut abruptly before the shutdown process completes, this code is logged on the next startup. As a protective measure, the engine will derate and limit engine speed to a maximum of 1800 RPM.
