New Holland NH 3128 – Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Hand Throttle potentiometer diff. error (or Channel Difference Error)
Issue description
This code indicates a discrepancy between the two signal tracks inside the hand throttle potentiometer. If the voltage readings from these two channels do not agree or fall out of their expected synchronized range, the system flags a difference error.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin/multi-pin connector at the hand throttle for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or chafed wires
Verify that the potentiometer is receiving a steady 5-volt reference supply and has a solid ground from the ECM
Perform a sweep test using a multimeter or a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the live voltage data for both hand throttle channels. Slowly move the hand throttle from the idle position to full throttle, looking for voltage dropouts, erratic spikes, or dead spots
Check for accompanying codes like NH 3129 (Idle switch high error) or NH 3130 (Idle switch low error) to further isolate the failure to the throttle assembly's internal switches
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Sensor
Remove the necessary side console trim or dashboard panels in the cab to access the base of the hand throttle lever assembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the hand throttle potentiometer.
Remove the Component
Remove the retaining screws or mounting hardware securing the potentiometer to the throttle lever assembly (or remove the entire throttle assembly if it is a sealed, one-piece unit).
Install the New Part
Mount the replacement potentiometer or throttle assembly and secure the hardware.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall the cab console trim.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard instrument cluster diagnostic menu) to clear the fault codes. Perform a throttle calibration procedure so the ECM can learn the new minimum (idle) and maximum (full throttle) voltage values of the new sensor.
