New Holland NH 4045 – ARU (Arm Rest Unit / Arm Rest Module): Controller Fault (Data Memory)

This fault code indicates that the internal data memory within the controller is corrupt. Specifically, the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) that stores operational data, such as user settings and machine calibration values, has failed a register check or become unreadable.

   Check System Voltage: Verify the tractor's battery and charging system. Voltage drops (Code 4040) or voltage spikes (Code 4041) to the ARU can cause temporary memory read/write errors.

   Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for related ARU critical faults, such as NH 4042 (ARU CAN 'Bus off'), NH 4043 (Register Check Fault), or NH 4044 (Flash Memory Fault). If multiple memory/processor codes are present, the module is almost certainly dead.

   Attempt Recalibration: Because the 'Data Memory' holds calibration values, attempt to recalibrate the armrest controls (e.g., joysticks, hitch, transmission) via the in-cab display. If the ARU refuses to accept the calibration or the code immediately returns after a key cycle, the internal memory chip has physically failed.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during removal.

   Access the ARU

   Remove the plastic housing and trim panels on the operator's seat armrest to expose the Arm Rest Module / Printed Circuit Board.

   Remove the Module

   Carefully unplug the multi-pin wiring harnesses connected to the ARU. Remove the retaining screws and extract the module.

   Install the New Module

   Secure the replacement ARU and reconnect all wiring harnesses.

   Flash the Controller

   Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port. The new ARU will be blank and must be flashed with the specific software payload for your exact tractor model and options.

   Perform Calibrations

   Once flashed, you must perform a full suite of armrest calibrations (joysticks, remote valves, hitch limits, and transmission controls) to populate the new module's data memory.

   Clear Codes

   Clear all inactive fault codes and cycle the key to verify NH 4045 does not return.
