New Holland NH 4101 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / Armrest Module (ARU): Rear Remote No.1 - Implausible EHR Control Messages

The electronic control unit managing the hydraulic system is receiving a signal over the CAN bus regarding the #1 rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve that does not make logical sense. The signal from the operator's control is either out of the expected calibration range, conflicting, or corrupted during transmission to the valve.

   Monitor live data from the Remote No. 1 paddle/potentiometer on the armrest for erratic jumps in the signal percentage

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector on the #1 EHR valve slice at the rear of the tractor for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins

3. 3

   Check the CAN bus lines for proper resistance (typically 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low with the battery disconnected)

   Verify that the tractor's system voltage is stable to rule out low voltage or bad grounds causing corrupted CAN messages

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent shorting any CAN modules.

   Clean Connections

   Disconnect the electrical plug at the Rear Remote No. 1 valve. Clean the contacts with electronic contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test.

   Replace the Input Device

   If the diagnostic check showed erratic readings from the armrest paddle, disassemble the armrest console and replace the Remote No. 1 control potentiometer/switch assembly.

   Replace the EHR Valve Slice

   If the wiring and armrest controls test perfectly, the logic board integrated into the EHR valve slice itself has failed and cannot process the CAN messages. The #1 valve slice must be mechanically unbolted from the rear hydraulic stack and replaced.

   Recalibration

   After replacing either the armrest control or the valve, power on the tractor, clear the inactive NH 4101 fault code, and run the EHR valve calibration routine via the tractor's display monitor so the system learns the new component's neutral and maximum flow setpoints.
