New Holland NH 4103 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) Controller / ARU (Arm Rest Unit / Module): Rear Remote No.1 – Switched to failsafe

The electronic control module for the #1 rear hydraulic remote valve has detected an operational irregularity (such as a voltage spike/drop, communication loss, or mechanical binding) and has forced the valve into a "failsafe" (neutral/disabled) mode to prevent unintended hydraulic operation.

   Check for accompanying codes (such as NH 4104, 4105, 4106/4107, or 4111) that pinpoint the exact failure.

   Inspect the wiring harness and valve block connectors (beneath the rear of the cab) for mud, moisture contamination, corrosion, bent pins, or water ingress.

   Check manual override to ensure the valve is not being manually operated or mechanically bound.

   Test CAN bus and power to verify that the valve slice is receiving proper 12V power, ground, and CAN bus communication signals from the EHR/ARU.

   Use the tractor's H-Menu (specifically H9) to check the operation of the potentiometers and voltage supplies to the hand controller and valve.

   Cycle the power

   Turn the tractor key off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Temporary voltage drops or CAN bus glitches can trigger a failsafe that clears upon a reboot.

   Clean and re-seat connectors

   Disconnect the electrical harness at the #1 rear remote valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely re-seat the connector.

   Recalibrate the valve

   If the code clears but the valve is unresponsive (or throws a 4217 "Valve Spool Not Calibrated" code), recalibrate it. With the engine off, turn the key to the ON position. Depress the timer switch on the valve to initiate the sequence on the display. Follow the on-screen prompts to capture the right, left, and neutral positions of the spool.

   Replace the valve slice

   If the wiring is intact, calibration fails, and the code persists (especially if accompanied by internal driver/potentiometer codes like 4110 or 4111), the electronic actuator/slice on the #1 remote valve has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Clear codes and calibrate

   After replacement, use the tractor's diagnostic menu or a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored fault codes and perform a final calibration of the new valve slice.
