NH 4106

New Holland NH 4106 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest Controller (ARU): Remote No.1 Spool movement to low

Issue description

The electronic controller commanded the spool inside the Rear Remote No.1 hydraulic valve to move, but the spool did not travel the expected distance. This is typically caused by a physically stuck spool (due to debris or cold, thick oil), a faulty position sensor/transducer on the valve, or a valve that has lost its calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM
  • TG

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to stroke the valve back and forth using the controls to check for physical binding caused by debris or extremely cold oil (below 5°C).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the Remote No.1 valve solenoids and position sensor for corrosion, moisture, or breaks.

  3. Check for related fault code 4170 ('EHR Control No. 1 not calibrated'). If present, the valve simply needs to be recalibrated.

  4. Verify the voltage and resistance of the position transducer (potentiometer) on the Remote No.1 valve to ensure it is reading correctly.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

Steam clean or thoroughly wipe down the remote control valve assembly prior to any disassembly to prevent hydraulic system contamination.

  2. Clear Debris

If the valve is sticking, stroke the valve back and forth repeatedly. Valves can be stroked to clear debris even if they fail initial calibration.

  3. Replace Faulty Components

If the position sensor or the valve section itself is defective, disconnect the harness, remove the base securing bolts, and replace the faulty sensor or EHR valve section.

  4. Calibrate the EHR Valve

Park the tractor away from obstacles, firmly apply the parking brake, and block the wheels. Disconnect all implements from the rear remotes. Ensure all EHR program switches are in the OFF position. Access the calibration menu (e.g., navigate to the 'HH' menu, select 'H1', and find the rear EHR symbol until the display shows 'CAL', or use the CNH Electronic Service Tool). Depress the program switch for lever No.1 to initiate the sequence and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the neutral, extend, and retract limits.
