New Holland NH 4108 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Remote No.1 Float position not reached

The Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) system commanded the spool for Remote Valve No. 1 to move into the 'Float' position, but the internal position transducer (potentiometer) detected that the spool did not physically reach the required destination.

   Mechanical Binding Check: Manually stroke the valve back and forth (if possible) to see if debris is restricting the spool's movement.

   Wiring and Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the Remote No. 1 valve head for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.

   Component Isolation (Swap Test): Swap the electronic actuator head (solenoid/potentiometer assembly) from Remote No. 1 to Remote No. 2. If the fault changes to NH 4122 ('Remote No.2 Float position not reached'), the actuator head is faulty. If the fault remains NH 4108, the mechanical valve slice/spool is sticking.

   Calibration Check: Verify if the EHR system has lost its calibration values. An uncalibrated valve will often fail to reach commanded detents.

   Clear Debris

   Before replacing parts, attempt to stroke the Remote No. 1 valve back and forth repeatedly. OEM manuals note that this can sometimes clear small debris causing the spool to stick.

   Recalibrate the EHR Valve

   Enter the tractor's H1 Calibration Mode via the instrument cluster (or use the CNH Electronic Service Tool). Follow the on-screen prompts to recalibrate the EHR valves. If the calibration fails, proceed to mechanical repair.

   Remove the Valve Actuator

   If the swap test (mentioned in diagnostics) proved the actuator is faulty, remove the retaining bolts on the electronic head of Remote No. 1 and replace the actuator/potentiometer assembly.

   Inspect the Spool/Valve Slice

   If the actuator is good but the spool is physically jamming, the hydraulic system must be depressurized. Remove the Remote No. 1 valve slice from the stack.

   Clean or Replace

   Disassemble the valve slice and inspect the spool for scoring or contamination. Clean thoroughly. If the spool or bore is heavily scored, the entire valve section must be replaced.

   Reassemble and Reprogram

   Reinstall the valve slice and/or actuator. If a new EHR valve assembly is installed, its CAN address must be reassigned/programmed to 'Valve No. 1' using the tractor's display or service tool.

   Final Calibration

   Perform a final EHR valve calibration to teach the controller the new spool travel limits.
