New Holland NH 4112 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Remote No.1 Unable to reach neutral

The internal spool for the #1 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve is failing to return to its center (neutral) position. This condition is typically caused by mechanical binding, debris lodged in the hydraulic valve block, a broken centering spring, or a faulty position sensor (potentiometer) that is misreporting the spool's physical location.

   Start the tractor and manually stroke the #1 remote valve back and forth repeatedly using the cab controls to dislodge any debris causing the spool to stick

   Use the tractor's in-cab display monitor to initiate an EHR valve calibration; a failure confirms a hard mechanical or electrical fault

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector plugging into Remote Valve #1 at the rear stack for corrosion, pushed pins, or wire chafing

   Test the resistance and voltage of the spool position potentiometer to verify if the sensor has failed or shorted out

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes.

   Isolate the Valve

   Locate Rear Remote Valve #1 in the hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor.

   Remove the Valve Section

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve's processor. Unbolt and carefully remove the #1 valve section from the stack.

   Inspect the Spool

   Check the internal spool for scoring, mechanical binding, or a broken return spring.

   Replace Components

   If the spool is mechanically sound but the sensor is dead, replace the valve potentiometer. If the spool is scored or the valve body is damaged, replace the entire EHR valve section.

   Reassemble

   Install the new or repaired valve section into the stack, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Reprogram the Valve Address

   Replacement EHR valve assemblies are supplied blank (with no number assigned). Because each valve has its own processor, you must use the tractor's display or a dealer diagnostic tool to reassign the CAN address so the tractor recognizes it specifically as 'Valve No. 1'.

   Final Calibration

   Perform the EHR valve calibration procedure via the tractor's display so the system can learn the new valve's exact neutral, extend, and retract limits.
