NH 4115

New Holland NH 4115 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) / ATC (Armrest Tractor Controller) / ICU (Instrument Cluster Unit): Remote No.2 Control Message not plausible

Issue description

A CAN bus communication error indicating the main tractor controller is receiving data or a control message from the Rear Remote No. 2 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve that is corrupted, out of expected range, or otherwise implausible.

Applies to these machines

  • T7 Series (T7.170 - T7.270)
  • T8 Series (T8.xxx)
  • T9 Series
  • T6000 Series (T6010 - T6090)
  • TM Series (TM175, TM190, MXM)
  • 8000 Series (8670-8970)

Check the cause

  1. Check the CAN bus wiring and the physical connections between the Rear Remote No. 2 EHR valve and the main controller for chafed wires or shorts to ground.

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at the EHR valve (typically a 4-pin connector) for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. Verify the supply voltage to the EHR valve (undervoltage or overvoltage conditions can cause the module to send corrupted messages).

  4. Verify if the EHR valves have been recently serviced and check if the renumbering procedure for the rear valves was completed correctly.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the engine, lower all implements to the ground, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before working on the remote valves.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify the Rear Remote No. 2 EHR valve assembly at the rear hydraulic stack of the tractor.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the electrical harness from the No. 2 valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test to see if the code clears.

  4. Harness Repair

If the wiring harness is damaged, repair or replace the EHR control valve wire harness section.

  5. Valve Replacement

If the wiring is intact and the voltage is correct, the internal electronics or transducer on the EHR valve module have likely failed. The electronic spool valve section will need to be replaced.

  6. Recalibration

After replacing the valve or controller, you must perform an EHR valve spool travel calibration and complete the valve renumbering procedure using the tractor's instrument cluster or diagnostic tool so the main controller recognizes the new valve.
