NH 4121

New Holland NH 4121 – Armrest Module (ARU) / EHR Controller: Remote No.2 Spool movement to high

Issue description

Indicates a mismatch between the commanded position and the actual position of the hydraulic spool valve. The electronic controller commanded the spool for Rear Remote Valve #2 to move, but the position sensor (potentiometer/LVDT) is reporting that the spool has traveled further than the expected or calibrated distance.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T4 Series
  • New Holland T5 Series
  • New Holland T6 Series
  • New Holland T7 Series
  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series
  • New Holland T6000 Series
  • New Holland T7000 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Armrest/EHR controller and Rear Remote Valve #2 for damaged pins, corrosion, or shorts to power/ground

  2. Test the spool position sensor (potentiometer) on Remote Valve #2 for correct voltage and resistance to ensure it is not sending an out-of-range signal

  3. Check the mechanical movement of the spool valve for sticking, binding, or over-travel caused by contaminated hydraulic fluid

  4. Check if the remote valve requires a spool travel calibration (loss of calibration is a very common cause)

Repair steps

  1. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Relieve all hydraulic system pressure and turn off the tractor.

  2. Inspect and clean connector

Inspect and clean the electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve #2. Reconnect and ensure a tight fit.

  3. Calibrate remote valve

Attempt a remote valve calibration (spool travel calibration) via the tractor's monitor/display. If the calibration completes successfully, clear the fault codes and test the remote under load.

  4. Replace position sensor

If the calibration fails or the sensor tests out of specification, replace the EHR flow control potentiometer / position sensor on the remote valve.

  5. Replace remote valve slice

If replacing the sensor does not resolve the issue, the entire remote valve slice (EHR valve) may have internal mechanical damage (such as a broken return spring or scored bore) and will require replacement.

  6. Perform final calibration

After replacing any hydraulic or electronic parts, perform a final remote valve calibration and clear the fault codes.

Parts you might need
