NH 4128

New Holland NH 4128 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Remote No.3 No control Message Received

Issue description

The tractor's control network (CAN bus) has lost communication with the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve #3. The system is failing to receive the expected electronic control messages between the operator's armrest control lever (or joystick) and the electronic actuator on the rear remote valve itself.

Applies to these machines

  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • T9 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check if the other rear remotes (No. 1, 2, or 4) are functioning normally to isolate the issue to Remote No. 3.

  2. Inspect the electrical connector plugging into the valve's electronic actuator for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress.

  3. Test the wiring harness between the Armrest Control Module and the rear valve block for continuity on CAN High and CAN Low lines.

  4. Verify the operation of the EHR control lever/potentiometer for Remote #3 in the cab.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Clean and Re-seat Connectors

Disconnect the wiring harness at Rear Remote Valve #3. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it. Power the tractor on to see if the code clears.

  3. Repair Wiring

If continuity tests reveal a break or short in the harness between the cab and the rear hydraulic block, splice and repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using weather-sealed connectors.

  4. Replace the Valve Actuator/Assembly

If the wiring and CAN bus signals are verified as good but the valve still does not communicate, the electronic actuator head on Remote Valve #3 (or the entire valve slice) has failed internally and must be replaced.

  5. Replace Cab Controls

If the diagnostic tests point to a dead control lever in the armrest, replace the EHR joystick or specific remote lever module.

  6. Recalibrate the EHR System

After replacing an EHR valve or controller, you must perform an EHR valve renumbering and calibration procedure using the tractor's in-cab display or an OEM diagnostic service tool so the system recognizes the new valve.
