New Holland NH 4132 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) module: Rear Remote No.3 - Under Voltage

Issue description

The electronic controller is receiving a voltage signal from the 3rd rear remote valve's position transducer (potentiometer) or spool driver that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground, a loss of the 5.0V sensor reference supply, or an internal failure of the potentiometer/driver on the valve itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the Rear Remote No.3 valve block for corrosion, moisture ingress, backed-out pins, or physical wire damage.

  2. Disconnect the harness from the No.3 remote valve, turn the key ON, and verify that the 5.0V reference voltage and ground are present at the harness connector.

  3. Check the signal wire for continuity back to the EHR controller and ensure it is not shorted to ground.

  4. Swap the electrical connection of Remote No.3 with an adjacent, known-good remote valve (such as Remote No.2 or No.4) to isolate the fault to the valve or the wiring.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize and Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, engage the battery isolator switch, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the remote valves.

  2. Clean and Reconnect

    If diagnostics revealed a dirty or corroded connector, clean the contacts thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Test to see if the code clears.

  3. Replace the Faulty Component

    If the swap test proved the valve's electronics are dead, remove the faulty potentiometer or spool driver head from the No.3 valve section. (Note: Depending on the exact tractor model and valve generation, the potentiometer may be available separately, or you may have to replace the entire valve slice).

  4. Install New Parts

    Install the replacement potentiometer or valve section and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the wiring harness securely.

  5. Re-calibrate the EHR System

    Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. You must perform a remote valve calibration procedure so the EHR module recognizes the new component's neutral and deflection set points. Depending on the model, this is done via the tractor's diagnostic H-menu (e.g., Mode HL) or using a dealer electronic service tool.

  6. Clear Codes

    Clear the stored fault codes and test the No.3 remote for proper operation.
