NH 4133

New Holland NH 4133 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) controller: Remote No.3 Over voltage

Issue description

The electronic controller is receiving a voltage signal from the 3rd rear remote valve (specifically its spool position sensor or flow control potentiometer) that is higher than the acceptable maximum threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to power (12V or 5V reference), an open ground circuit (which causes the signal voltage to float high), or an internally failed potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 series
  • T7 series
  • T8 series
  • TM series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve No. 3 for corrosion, moisture ingress, pushed-out pins, or wire chafing against the chassis.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the sensor's ground circuit and reference voltage (an open ground wire is a common culprit that causes the signal voltage to float high).

  3. Perform a component swap test by swapping the sensor/potentiometer or electrical connector with an adjacent known-good remote valve (e.g., No. 2 or No. 4) to see if the fault code follows the component.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for service

Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve No. 3.

  3. Repair wiring or clean connector

Repair any damaged wiring or clean corroded connector pins using electrical contact cleaner.

  4. Replace faulty component

If the diagnostic tests proved the sensor/potentiometer is faulty, remove the retaining hardware and replace the potentiometer/sensor assembly on the valve body or the flow control knob on the armrest (depending on which end of the circuit failed the swap test).

  5. Restore power

Reconnect the harness and restore battery power.

  6. Perform calibration

After replacing EHR components, you must perform a remote valve spool calibration using the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu (H-Menu) or a dealer service tool to teach the controller the new sensor's neutral, extend, and retract voltage limits.
