NH 4135

New Holland NH 4135 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Remote No.3 Spool movement to high

Issue description

The electronic control system has detected the internal spool of the #3 rear remote hydraulic valve has traveled beyond its maximum expected or commanded position, or the position sensor (potentiometer/LVDT) is reporting a voltage value that is out of the expected range for the commanded position.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7 Series (T7.220, T7.235, T7.250, T7.260, T7.270)
  • New Holland T8 Series (T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.360, T8.390)
  • New Holland TM Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for related EHR codes that might pinpoint the failure, such as 4138 (Driver faulty), 4139 (Position Transducer/Potentiometer faulty), or 4219 (Valve Spool Not Calibrated)

  2. Clear the error code from the EHR module and test the system for normal operation to see if the fault is active or stored

  3. Verify that the tractor's standby and working hydraulic pressures are within specification, as incorrect pressure can cause erratic spool movement

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the #3 remote valve for corrosion, pushed pins, or shorts to ground/power

  5. Swap the electrical connector from the #3 remote valve to another known-good remote valve (e.g., #2 or #4) to isolate the fault. If the code changes to the other remote, the issue is in the wiring or controller; if it stays, the issue is internal to the valve or sensor

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the remote valves by cycling the levers/switches.

  2. Inspect the Valve

If the electrical isolation test points to the valve, inspect the #3 remote valve for physical binding, a broken centering spring, or contamination preventing normal spool travel.

  3. Replace the Sensor/Valve

If the position transducer (potentiometer) is removable and available separately, replace it. If the spool is mechanically damaged, the centering spring is broken, or the sensor is integrated and cannot be serviced separately, replace the entire #3 EHR remote valve section.

  4. Reassemble

Install the new valve section or sensor and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harness.

  5. Calibrate

You must perform a remote valve spool calibration via the tractor's HTS/diagnostic screen or electronic service tool after replacing the valve or controller. Failure to calibrate will result in code 4219.
