New Holland NH 4136 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control module: Rear Remote No.3 - Float position not reached
Issue description
The tractor's control system commanded the spool for the #3 rear remote hydraulic valve to move into the float (or open center) position, but the position transducer (potentiometer) located on the valve did not detect the spool reaching the target position within the expected timeframe.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- T6 Series
- T6000 Series
- T7 Series
- T7000 Series
- T8 Series
- T9 Series
- TS-A Series
- TM Series
Check the cause
Attempt to recalibrate the EHR remote valves via the tractor's display monitor or H-menu diagnostic mode to correct any software calibration drift.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the #3 rear remote valve section for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress.
Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector from Remote #3 to an adjacent remote (e.g., #2 or #4). If the fault code changes to the new remote, the issue is in the wiring or controller. If it stays on #3, the valve or potentiometer is faulty.
Check for physical mechanical binding of the #3 remote valve spool, which can be caused by debris in the hydraulic system or extremely cold/thick hydraulic oil.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/switches with the key on (engine off), and disconnect the battery.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the #3 valve section (usually the third slice from the inlet).
Clean and Re-seat Connections
Disconnect the electrical harness from the #3 remote valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Test the tractor to see if the code clears.
Replace the Valve Section/Potentiometer
If the swap test confirmed the valve is dead and calibration fails, the valve section or its integrated potentiometer must be replaced. On many Rexroth-supplied EHR valves, the internal position transducer is not serviced separately, requiring the replacement of the entire valve slice.
Installation
Unbolt the tie-rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together. Carefully slide out the #3 valve section, ensuring you do not lose or pinch the O-rings between the slices. Insert the new valve section with fresh O-rings and torque the tie-rods to OEM specifications.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery and harness. You must perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the tractor's display or the diagnostic test switch (Tool No. 380000488) to teach the EHR controller the new spool's travel limits.
