New Holland NH 4137 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control module: Rear Remote No.3 - Manual Operation

The control module has detected movement in the spool of the Rear Remote Valve No. 3 without receiving an electronic command from the cab controls. This indicates the valve is being operated manually, or is triggered by a failing spool position transducer (potentiometer) sending erratic data, or a spool that is mechanically sticking/drifting.

   Inspect the Rear Remote No. 3 valve block at the rear of the tractor to verify that the manual override lever/screw has not been accidentally engaged or bumped.

   Check the wiring harness and the electrical connector plugging into the No. 3 EHR valve for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Test the spool position transducer (potentiometer) for a smooth voltage sweep to rule out erratic voltage spikes.

   Check if the spool is physically sticking due to contaminated hydraulic fluid or internal scoring.

   Prepare the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.

   Disengage Manual Override

   If the manual override on valve No. 3 is engaged, return it to the neutral/electronic position. Turn the key on and check if the fault code clears.

   Clean Connections

   If the code persists, disconnect the electrical connector at the No. 3 valve. Clean the contacts thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect.

   Replace the Valve Section/Sensor

   If the wiring is good but the sensor is failing or the spool is binding internally, the affected EHR valve section (or the sensor cap) must be removed. Unbolt the tie-rods holding the rear hydraulic stack together and carefully remove the No. 3 slice.

   Reassembly

   Install the new EHR valve section. Reassemble the hydraulic stack, ensuring all O-rings are seated correctly, and torque the tie bolts to the OEM specification for your exact model.

   Fluid Check

   Top off the hydraulic fluid to replace any lost during the swap.

   Calibration

   Perform an EHR valve calibration using the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu (H Menu) or an electronic service tool to teach the EHR controller the new valve's neutral dead-band and end-of-stroke limits.
