New Holland NH 4142 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) module / Primary Hydraulic Power System: Rear Remote No.4 - No EHR Control Messages
Issue description
Communication failure on the CAN bus network indicating the central controller is not receiving the expected control messages from or to the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve number 4.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- T6 series
- T7 series
- T7.220
- T7.235
- T7.250
- T8 series
- T8.300
- T9 series
- TM series
- TM 120
Check the cause
Inspect the EHR valve #4 connector, extension harness connector, central controller (XCM/Armrest) connector, and CAN bus terminating resistor connector for damage, corrosion, or pushed pins.
Perform a CAN Bus Resistance Test with the battery disconnected. Measure resistance across CAN High and CAN Low at the EHR connector (should be ~60 Ohms). If the reading is 120 Ohms, there is an open circuit or a missing/failed terminating resistor. If the reading is < 5 Ohms, there is a short circuit in the CAN bus wiring.
Verify that EHR valve #4 is receiving proper 12V operating power and has a clean ground connection.
Repair steps
Resolve Wiring Faults
If the resistance test fails, trace the CAN bus harness from the rear remote valve block back to the central controller. Repair any chafed wires, open circuits, or short circuits.
Replace Terminating Resistor
If the circuit is open and wiring is intact, locate and replace the faulty CAN bus terminating resistor.
Replace the EHR Valve
If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN resistance (60 Ohms) all test perfectly, the internal module on EHR Valve #4 has failed and the valve assembly must be replaced.
Clear and Calibrate
After repairing the harness or replacing the valve, use a diagnostic tool (like the Jaltest or New Holland EST) to clear the inactive NH 4142 code. Test the rear remote for normal operation. A hydraulic valve calibration may be required depending on the exact tractor model.
