NH 4143

New Holland NH 4143 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / Primary Hydraulic Power System: Remote No.4 Control Message not plausible

Issue description

Communication or logic error where the control module is receiving erratic, corrupted, or illogical CAN bus signals from the #4 electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve.

Applies to these machines

  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM series
  • T5040-T5070
  • TS-A series
  • SP280/SP480 sprayers
  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Steiger
  • MXU series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and the electrical connector going directly to the #4 remote valve for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wires.

  2. Check for low hydraulic fluid levels, air in the lines, or contaminated fluid which can cause internal valve sticking.

  3. Use the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's in-cab display to monitor live data from the #4 valve and attempt to run the valve calibration procedure.

  4. Verify that the in-cab EHR switch for the #4 valve is functioning correctly and not sending conflicting voltage signals to the controller.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Safely shut down the machine and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the valve stack.

  2. Remove the Faulty Valve

Disconnect the electrical harness from the #4 remote valve. Unbolt the #4 valve section from the rear remote valve stack.

  3. Install the New Valve

Install the replacement EHR valve section, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated between the valve slices. Torque the tie-bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Reprogram the Valve Number

Use the tractor's display or the EST diagnostic tool to program the new valve's internal processor to identify itself as 'Valve No. 4'.

  5. Calibrate the Valve

Once numbered, initiate the electro-hydraulic valve calibration process via the tractor's display to teach the system the new valve's neutral, extend, and retract spool limits.

  6. Test Operation

Start the tractor, check for leaks, and verify that fault code NH 4143 has cleared and the remote operates smoothly.
