NH 4145

New Holland NH 4145 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller or ATC (Armrest/Tractor Controller): Rear Remote No.4 - Switched to failsafe

Issue description

The 4th electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve has entered a protective failsafe mode. This typically happens when the valve's internal processor does not receive the command to switch to neutral when power is applied, or if there is a communication/calibration error that forces the valve to shut down to prevent unintended hydraulic movement. The remote valve drops out, the in-cab paddles become inoperable, and the tractor usually has to be restarted.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 series
  • T6000 series
  • T7 series
  • T7.185
  • T7.210
  • T7.245
  • T7000 series
  • T8 series
  • T9 series
  • T9.615

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the tractor power to see if the failsafe resets temporarily

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear remote valve stack for shorts or open circuits

  3. Verify that the in-cab paddle/switch for the 3rd and 4th remotes is not physically stuck or damaged

  4. Attempt to run an EHR valve calibration using the tractor's display monitor to reset position memory

Repair steps

  1. Access the Valve Stack

Locate the rear remote valve stack at the back of the tractor. Identify valve section No.4.

  2. Clean and Inspect Connections

Disconnect the electrical connector to the No.4 valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and ensure no pins are pushed back or corroded. Reconnect and test.

  3. Replace the Valve Section

If wiring is intact and calibration fails, the valve's internal processor or potentiometer is likely defective. Remove the No.4 valve section from the hydraulic stack and install a replacement.

  4. Reprogram the New Valve

Because each valve has its own processor, you must use the tractor's display or a diagnostic tool to program the new valve to identify itself as 'Valve No.4' within the stack.

  5. Calibrate

Once programmed, run the standard electro-hydraulic remote valve calibration procedure to learn the neutral, extend, and retract limits.
