New Holland NH 4147 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.4 - Over Voltage
Issue description
The control system is receiving a voltage signal from the Rear Remote No.4 spool valve circuit (either the position potentiometer or the solenoid control circuit) that is higher than the expected normal operating range. This is typically caused by a short to power (+12V) in the wiring harness, a failed internal potentiometer inside the valve slice, or a malfunctioning in-cab control switch.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the EHR module to the rear remote valve stack for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could be shorting to a 12V power source.
Disconnect the harness at the Rear Remote No.4 valve. Check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins inside the connector.
Perform a component isolation (swap test) by swapping the electrical connector from Remote No.4 to another known-good remote valve (such as Remote No.3). If the fault code changes to the corresponding remote, the issue is an internal short within the Remote No.4 valve. If the code remains NH 4147, the issue is isolated to the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR module.
Test the in-cab remote valve paddle/switch on the armrest for proper voltage output, as a shorted paddle can also send an over-voltage command to the EHR module.
Repair steps
Secure the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, block the wheels, and lower all hydraulic links to the ground.
Relieve pressure and clean
Relieve all hydraulic system pressure and steam clean the rear remote control valve assembly prior to disassembly to prevent system contamination.
Disconnect wiring harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the remote valve solenoids. Label or identify the remote valve connectors to ensure correct re-installation.
Remove end plate bolts
Using suitable lifting equipment to support the remote valve assembly, remove the end plate securing bolts.
Remove Remote No.4 valve slice
Carefully slide out the Remote No.4 valve slice using guide pins. Caution: Small shims are positioned between the manifold and the remote valves. Take extreme care not to damage or lose these shims during removal.
Prepare shims for installation
Apply petroleum jelly to the shims to hold them securely in place during reassembly.
Install new valve slice
Install the new remote valve slice and reassemble the valve stack using the guide pins. Torque the securing bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect hoses and harness
Reconnect the hydraulic hoses and the electrical harness.
Calibrate the new EHR valve
Install the diagnostic connector tool (OEM part # 380000843) into the tractor's diagnostic socket. Ensure all implements are disconnected from the rear remotes and all EHR program switches are in the OFF position. Use the 'h', 'm', and 'dimming' keys on the instrument cluster to navigate the HH menu to 'H1' and select the rear EHR symbol. The lower central display will show 'CAL'. Depress the program switch for the corresponding lever to initiate and complete the calibration process.
