New Holland NH 4158 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.5 - Checksum Verification Failure
Issue description
The internal memory (EEPROM) of the electronic controller for the 5th rear hydraulic remote valve has failed a checksum test, indicating corrupted data or a hardware failure in the valve actuator's internal electronic circuitry.

Check the cause
Verify Equipment Configuration: Check if the tractor is actually equipped with a 5th rear remote valve. If it is not, this code may appear as a 'Spare' configuration error due to a software glitch.
Inspect Wiring and Connections: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the #5 electrohydraulic remote valve slice at the rear of the tractor. Look for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damaged pins.
Check Voltage and CAN Bus: Verify that the CAN bus communication and 12V supply to the EHR valve block are stable and within specification.
Attempt Recalibration: Clear the fault code and attempt to perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration using the tractor's in-cab diagnostic menu or the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Repair steps
Depressurize and Disconnect
Lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the tractor's battery power before servicing the electrohydraulic valves.
Locate the Valve
Locate the rear remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the #5 slice (usually the outermost or top valve depending on the stack orientation).
Disconnect Harness
Disconnect the electrical harness connected to the #5 valve actuator.
Remove the Valve Slice
Unbolt the tie rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together. Carefully slide out the faulty #5 valve slice.
Install the New Valve
Install the replacement electrohydraulic valve slice, ensuring that all new O-rings are properly seated between the slices to prevent leaks.
Reassemble
Re-torque the valve stack tie rods to the OEM specifications found in your specific model's service manual. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reprogram and Calibrate
Power on the tractor. You will likely need to use the New Holland EST (Electronic Service Tool) to program the new valve to the tractor's CAN bus network and perform the EHR calibration procedure so the main controller recognizes the new EEPROM.
