New Holland NH 4160 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Under Voltage
Issue description
The voltage supplied to or measured at the electronic pilot head for the #5 rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve has fallen below the acceptable operating threshold, causing the system to lock out hydraulic functions for that remote.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- T6 Series
- T7 Series
- T8 Series
- T9 Series
- TM Series
- T7030
- T7040
- T7050
- T7060
- T8.390
- T9.390
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the #5 rear remote valve for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
Measure the voltage at the remote valve connector to verify if the under-voltage condition is caused by a wiring drop/short or if the controller itself is failing to send the correct voltage.
Swap the electrical connection (or the pilot head itself) with a known-good remote (such as Remote #4) to cross-test. If the fault code changes to the #4 remote, the pilot head is faulty. If the fault remains on #5, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR controller.
Verify that the EHR enable relays and fuses (e.g., fuses 39 or 41 on some models) are intact and providing full power to the low-pressure remote system.
Attempt to recalibrate the valve using the tractor's display monitor, as a valve will sometimes throw errors if it loses its calibration.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical shorts.
Relieve Pressure
Ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the rear remote stack.
Disconnect Harness
Unplug the wiring harness from the pilot head on the #5 remote valve slice.
Remove the Pilot Head
Remove the mounting screws that secure the electronic pilot head to the mechanical spool valve body.
Install New Component
Install the replacement pilot head and tighten the fasteners to OEM spec. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Calibrate the Valve
Turn the key on and navigate to the EHR CAL screen on the tractor's instrumentation display. Initiate the calibration sequence for the #5 remote. If calibration fails the first time, stroke the valve back and forth manually (or via the cab lever) to clear any debris, then attempt to calibrate again.
Clear Codes
Clear the stored NH 4160 fault code from the EHR controller and test the remote with an implement.
