NH 4165

New Holland NH 4165 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.5 - Manual Operation

Issue description

Triggered when the controller detects that the spool for the 5th rear hydraulic remote valve has moved without an electronic command. This usually means the operator is physically moving the manual override lever, or the position transducer (potentiometer) inside the valve's electronic pilot head has failed or drifted.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7 Series
  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland MXM Series
  • New Holland TM Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the manual override lever on the #5 rear remote valve to ensure it is not stuck, bound by debris, or accidentally engaged.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the EHR controller to the #5 remote valve for corroded pins, moisture ingress, or chafed wires.

  3. Swap the electronic pilot head from the #5 remote to another working remote (like #3 or #4) to see if the fault code follows the module.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the EHR remote valves via the tractor's instrument cluster or Electronic Service Tool (EST).

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the #5 rear remote valve pilot head.

  3. Remove the Pilot Head

Remove the Allen bolts securing the electronic pilot head to the mechanical valve slice. Carefully pull the module away, ensuring you do not lose any internal springs or O-rings.

  4. Install the New Module

Lubricate the O-rings on the new pilot head with clean hydraulic fluid. Seat it onto the valve body and torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new module.

  6. Calibrate

Turn the tractor key to the ON position. You must perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration procedure using the tractor's onboard display or the EST laptop. This teaches the EHR controller the new module's exact neutral, extend, and retract voltage parameters.

  7. Test

Clear the inactive NH 4165 fault code and test the #5 remote under load to ensure normal operation.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • EHR Remote Valve Pilot Head / Electronic Control Module

This is the most common failure point. Generic part name; often sold as a complete actuator assembly.

  • Hydraulic Valve Spool

    82847531

Example fitment for select NH construction/ag models.

  • Rear Remote Valve Kit (Complete Slice)

    MT20116103

If the mechanical spool itself is scored and sticking, the entire valve slice may need replacement.

  • Rear Remote Valve Kit

    710440016

Two-Spool Kit. If the mechanical spool itself is scored and sticking, the entire valve slice may need replacement.

  • Rear Remote Valve Kit (Complete Slice)

    719195010

If the mechanical spool itself is scored and sticking, the entire valve slice may need replacement.
