New Holland NH 4167 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Position Transducer Faulty
Issue description
The controller is receiving an out-of-range, erratic, or missing signal from the position transducer (potentiometer) that monitors the physical movement of the spool inside the 5th rear hydraulic remote valve.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- T7
- T8
- T9
- TM series
- T7000 series
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Maxxum
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and the Hirschmann-style connector at the No. 5 rear remote valve slice for corrosion, moisture, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.
Use a multimeter to check for a 5V reference signal, ground, and signal return at the transducer connector to rule out an open or short circuit in the tractor's wiring harness.
Ensure the spool is not mechanically stuck or jammed by debris, which prevents it from returning to neutral and can trigger position transducer errors.
Attempt to perform a remote valve calibration via the tractor's in-cab display monitor. If the transducer has drifted out of spec, calibration might temporarily resolve it. If it fails immediately, the transducer is dead.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and cycle the remote levers/buttons to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve block. Identify valve slice No. 5 (usually the furthest slice depending on the stack configuration).
Replace the Transducer/Valve
Remove the retaining screws holding the position transducer (potentiometer) cap on the back of the valve slice. If the position transducer is integrated into the electronic actuator head and cannot be serviced separately, the entire electronic remote valve slice must be replaced.
Reprogram the Valve
If replacing the whole slice, use the tractor's diagnostic menu or a dealer service tool to program the new valve's processor so it knows it is 'Valve No. 5'.
Calibrate
Once the new part is installed and numbered, perform a full EHR remote valve calibration using the tractor's display to teach the controller the new spool travel limits.
