New Holland NH 4168 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral
Issue description
The 5th rear remote valve spool fails to center itself (unable to reach neutral position).
Applies to these machines
3 machines- New Holland T7 Series (T7.220, T7.235, T7.250, T7.260, T7.270)
- New Holland T8.xxx Series
- New Holland T9 Series
Check the cause
Check if the spool for Rear Remote No. 5 is physically stuck or binding due to debris, contamination in the hydraulic fluid, or mechanical failure
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the Rear Remote No. 5 electronic valve for damaged wires, corrosion, or poor pin connections
Check the position sensor on the spool valve to ensure it is sending the correct signal
Verify the EHR controller calibration, as a loss of calibration can cause the controller to misinterpret the neutral position
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before servicing the valve block.
Inspect the Valve
Locate the Rear Remote No. 5 valve assembly on the rear hydraulic stack. Inspect it for external damage or severe leaks.
Clean and Free the Spool
If the spool is mechanically binding, carefully disassemble the valve cap. Clean the valve body and spool to remove any debris or contamination.
Replace Faulty Components
If the spool is scored/damaged and cannot move freely, or if the internal position sensor/solenoid has failed, replace the affected remote valve section or the electronic actuator cap.
Recalibrate
After cleaning or replacing the valve/sensor, use the tractor's diagnostic menu or an electronic service tool to recalibrate the EHR system and the rear remote valves so the controller can relearn the correct neutral set point.
