New Holland NH 4171 – DU (Drive Unit / Display Unit) Control Module: Rear EHR Control No.1 Open Circuit
Issue description
This code indicates that the electrical circuit for the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control lever or spool number 1 has an open circuit. This condition is typically caused by a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or a failed potentiometer/switch inside the control lever assembly.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EHR Control Lever No.1 (in the cab/armrest) and the DU control module for broken wires, chafing, or backed-out pins
Inspect the 4-pin connector at the rear remote valve No.1 for corrosion, moisture, or damage
Use the H9 menu on the instrument cluster to check the lever potentiometer in H9 Channel 55. Values should change continuously between 10 and 90 when operating the lever from float to extend
Verify the CAN BUS communication lines for continuity and proper voltage
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the battery power before beginning electrical repairs.
Repair Wiring
Repair any broken wires or replace damaged connectors found during the diagnostic checks.
Replace Faulty Components
If the H9 menu test confirms the EHR control lever potentiometer is dead and the wiring is intact, replace the EHR control lever assembly. If the remote valve spool actuator itself has an internal open circuit, replace the actuator/valve.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the error code.
Perform Calibration
After repairing the wiring or replacing the lever/valve, you must perform a spool travel calibration (EHR valve calibration). Failing to calibrate the new component will immediately throw a related code: NH 4170.
