NH 4180

New Holland NH 4180 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: EHR Control No. 4 not calibrated

Issue description

The Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote (EHR) system has detected that the control lever or valve spool for rear remote valve #4 lacks a valid calibration value in its memory. The system disables the remote or limits its functionality as a safety precaution until the neutral and stroke positions are relearned.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related circuit codes (NH 4181 or NH 4182). If present, resolve wiring harness or potentiometer issues before attempting calibration.

  2. Stroke the uncalibrated valve lever back and forth manually a few times to clear any hydraulic debris.

  3. Park the tractor away from obstacles, firmly apply the parking brake, and block the wheels.

  4. Disconnect all hydraulic hoses and implements from the rear remotes.

  5. Ensure all EHR program switches are in the OFF position and the ground speed display reads zero.

Repair steps

  1. Connect the Diagnostic Tool

Install the New Holland diagnostic connector switch (Special Tool No. 380000488 or 380000843, depending on the model year) into the black diagnostic socket, typically located beneath the Electronic Draft Control operator panel.

  2. Enter Diagnostic Mode

Turn the key-start switch to the 'ON' position. The instrument panel display will show "HH" to indicate the diagnostic menu is active.

  3. Navigate to Calibration

Use the "h", "m", and "dimming" keys on the instrument cluster to navigate the HH menus to H1 (Calibration Mode) and select the rear EHR symbol. The lower central display will show "CAL".

  4. Initiate Valve #4

Depress the program switch for lever No. 4 three times in quick succession.

  5. Neutral Calibration

The calibration will proceed. The program lamp for EHR 4 will illuminate, and the lower central display will show "1". Wait for the system to acquire and store the neutral position. Once stored, the display will change to "2".

  6. Stroke Calibration

While "2" is displayed, move the lever to the raise position. The program light will illuminate when movement is detected. Follow any remaining on-screen prompts (moving to lower/float if requested) until the display shows "END".

  7. Finalize

Turn the key off, remove the diagnostic tool, and restart the tractor to verify code NH 4180 has cleared.
