New Holland NH 4184 – Main Vehicle Controller / EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: EHR Joystick potentiometer X open circuit

This code indicates that the X-axis (left/right movement) of the electronic hydraulic joystick has a failed sensor or an open circuit in its wiring. The controller is not receiving the expected voltage signal from the potentiometer that tracks the side-to-side position of the joystick.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the EHR joystick to the main vehicle controller for any visible breaks, chafing, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the joystick harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

   Using a multimeter, test the resistance/voltage of the X-axis potentiometer on the joystick while moving it left and right to check for an open circuit or erratic voltage.

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the armrest or side console trim panels to access the base of the EHR joystick and its wiring harness.
