NH 4196

New Holland NH 4196 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest / Central Control Unit (CCU): Motor mode No.3 switch faulty

Issue description

This code indicates an electrical fault, signal failure, or physical defect in the switch that controls the motor mode for the 3rd rear Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series (T6010, T6020, T6030, T6040, T6050, T6060, T6070, T6080)
  • T7 Series (T7.175, T7.190, T7.210, T7.220, T7.235, T7.250, T7.260, T7.270, T7000 series)
  • TSA / TS-A Series (TS115A, TS130A, TS135A)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the EHR No. 3 motor mode switch on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

  2. Check the wiring harness and connector (C327 or CN3A) under the armrest console for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

  3. Enter the tractor's H9 Diagnostic Menu to monitor the live state of the armrest switches and verify if the controller registers the switch toggle.

  4. Perform a continuity test across the switch terminals with a multimeter while toggling it to check for internal failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Remove the retaining screws securing the top cover or side panel of the electronic armrest console where the EHR switches are housed.

  3. Remove the Faulty Switch

Locate the EHR No. 3 switch. Disconnect its electrical harness connector. Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it up/out through the top of the console bezel.

  4. Install the New Switch

Snap the replacement switch into the console bezel until the retaining tabs click into place.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness connector back into the new switch.

  6. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest console cover and secure all screws.

  7. Test and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, clear the inactive fault codes via the diagnostic menu, and test the No. 3 rear remote to ensure proper motor mode operation.
