Check the cause

  1. Inspect the No. 4 EHR motor mode switch (located on the armrest or right-hand side console) for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

  2. Access the wiring harness beneath the switch and check the connector for loose pins, corrosion, or disconnected wires.

  3. Using a multimeter, test the switch for continuity to ensure it is not stuck open or shorted to ground.

  4. Check the wiring harness between the switch and the DU Module / EHR controller for continuity and ensure there are no shorts to 12V power or ground.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the trim panel on the armrest or side console where the EHR controls are housed.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty No. 4 motor mode switch.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs or remove the mounting screws holding the switch in the console bezel, and pull the switch out.

  5. Install

Push the new OEM replacement switch into the console until it clicks into place or secure it with the mounting screws.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the switch, ensuring the connector locks securely.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the console trim panel and secure all screws.

  8. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the tractor's display menu or a diagnostic tool to clear the NH 4197 fault code. Test the No. 4 EHR valve to confirm proper motor mode operation.
