NH 5007

New Holland NH 5007 – PTO Management System: Rear PTO Solenoid Stuck off

Issue description

Fault code NH 5007 indicates that the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) solenoid is stuck in the "off" position. The control module detects that the solenoid circuit is either open, shorted to ground, or the solenoid coil itself has failed, preventing the rear PTO from engaging when commanded.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the Rear PTO Solenoid (Y18 or Y32) and wiring harness for visible cable damage, rubbing, or breaks

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector (X-159) at the solenoid and check for dirt, corrosion, or pushed-out pins

  3. Test the solenoid coil with a multimeter for continuity and proper resistance to check for an open circuit or dead short (defective magnet cause)

  4. Check the wiring harness from the solenoid back to the control module for continuity and ensure there is no short to ground (wiring fault cause)

  5. Verify that related PTO switches (cab switch, fender switches) are functioning properly, as wiring faults here can cause overlapping codes

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the solenoid

Locate the Rear PTO Solenoid (Y18/Y32) on the rear transmission housing/valve block.

  3. Disconnect the connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.

  4. Repair wiring or terminals

If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the defective connector terminals.

  5. Remove the retaining nut/bolt

If the solenoid coil tested out of specification (defective magnet) or is mechanically seized, remove the retaining nut/bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

  6. Remove the old solenoid coil

Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (If the hydraulic cartridge itself is stuck, the hydraulic system must be depressurized, and the entire valve cartridge unscrewed and replaced).

  7. Install the new solenoid coil

Install the new solenoid coil (and valve cartridge if necessary) and secure it.

  8. Reconnect the electrical connector

Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

  9. Test the repair

Turn the ignition on, clear the stored fault codes from the diagnostic display, and test the rear PTO engagement to verify the repair.
