New Holland NH 5027 – Rear PTO control module: Rear PTO speed sensor open circuit (not implemented)
Issue description
The control system has detected a lack of electrical continuity (an open circuit) in the circuit for the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor. This may also indicate a software configuration mismatch if the sensor is not installed, or potentially that the low side of the PTO solenoid is connected permanently to GND.

Check the cause
Verify equipment configuration to confirm if your specific tractor model and trim is actually equipped with a rear PTO speed sensor
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO speed sensor for severed wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs
Disconnect the sensor and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage
Repair steps
Locate sensor
Locate the Rear PTO speed sensor on the rear PTO housing of the tractor.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.
Repair wiring
If a broken wire is found in the harness during the diagnostic phase, repair the wiring to restore continuity.
Remove faulty sensor
If the wiring is intact, the sensor itself has likely failed internally (causing the open circuit). Unbolt and remove the faulty PTO speed sensor.
Install replacement sensor
Install the replacement PTO speed sensor and securely reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear codes and test
Clear the fault codes from the PTO control module and engage the PTO to verify that the sensor is reading correctly and the code does not return.
Recalibrate ECU
If the tractor does not actually have this sensor installed (as per the 'not implemented' note), the tractor's ECU may require a software recalibration by a dealer to disable the module from looking for this sensor circuit.
