Check the cause

  1. Verify Equipment: Confirm whether the specific tractor was factory-equipped with the Auto PTO option.

  2. Inspect the Switch: Check the Auto PTO switch (located on the armrest, B-pillar, or dashboard depending on the model) for physical damage or a stuck button.

  3. Check Display Settings: Access the IntelliView display to see if the Auto PTO function has been manually turned off or if the linkage height parameters are uncalibrated.

Repair steps

  1. Software Enablement

If the tractor is equipped with Auto PTO, access the configuration menu via the IntelliView display or connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  2. Enable Auto PTO

Navigate to the PTO management or Armrest controller settings and activate/enable the Auto PTO option.

  3. Switch Replacement (if applicable)

If the software is configured correctly but the code persists due to a faulty or shorted switch sending constant unverified signals: Disconnect the battery, carefully pry out the switch panel on the armrest or dashboard, disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the Auto PTO switch, snap the new OEM switch into place and reconnect the harness.

  4. Clear Codes

Use a DTC eraser or the dealer EST tool to clear the NH 5099 code from the Armrest/PTO controller memory.

  5. Test

Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and depress the AUTO side of the switch for more than one second to ensure it activates without throwing the code.
