New Holland NH 6020 – Chassis Control Module (CCM) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU): FWD switch error

An electrical fault in the Front Wheel Drive (FWD) / Mechanical Front Drive (MFD) switch circuit. The control system has detected an invalid signal, an open circuit, or a short circuit coming from the operator's FWD engagement switch.

   Perform a Brake Bypass Test: verify if FWD engages automatically when brakes are applied to isolate the issue to the switch or its wiring

   Check the main fuse panel (often in the right-side cab 'B' post) for a blown 5-amp fuse supplying power to the FWD switch circuit

   Inspect the wiring harness directly behind the FWD switch for broken wires, chafing, or loose connector pins

   Remove the switch and use a digital multimeter to test for continuity across the terminals when toggled to verify internal failure

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the FWD switch on the right-hand console, dashboard, or armrest (location varies by model). Carefully pry up the surrounding plastic trim bezel using a non-marring trim tool.

   Removal

   Reach behind the switch to depress the locking tab on the electrical harness connector and pull it free. Squeeze the retaining clips on the sides of the switch body and push it outward through the front of the panel.

   Installation

   Insert the new OEM FWD switch into the panel until the retaining clips snap securely into place.

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical harness connector into the back of the new switch. Reinstall the console trim bezel.

   Testing

   Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and toggle the FWD switch to verify engagement. The NH 6020 fault code should move to an inactive state or clear from the Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC).
