New Holland NH 6022 – Transmission Controller / Electronic Management Unit (EMU) / SCM (System Control Module): FWD Solenoid Stuck off

Issue description

The Front Wheel Drive (FWD) or Mechanical Front-Wheel Drive (MFD) solenoid valve is failing to actuate, or the system detects that the circuit is stuck in the 'off' (disengaged) state.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the FWD solenoid for melted insulation, naked wires, or physical breaks (cable damage).

  2. Check the electrical connector at the solenoid to ensure it is securely connected and free of corrosion or debris.

  3. Test the FWD solenoid coil resistance to determine if the internal magnet has failed (open circuit or shorted).

Repair steps

  1. Park tractor

Park the tractor in a safe, clean location and apply the parking brake.

  2. Locate solenoid

Locate the FWD / MFD solenoid valve assembly.

  3. Disconnect connector

Disconnect the electrical connector plug from the solenoid.

  4. Repair wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, repair the harness or replace the connector plug.

  5. Remove defective solenoid

If the solenoid itself is defective, remove the retaining hardware and slide the solenoid coil off the valve stem, or unthread the entire solenoid valve cartridge from the block (be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic oil).

  6. Install new solenoid

Install the new FWD solenoid valve/coil and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

  7. Reconnect plug

    Reconnect the electrical plug.

  8. Clear codes and test

Clear the fault codes from the transmission controller and test the FWD engagement to ensure proper operation.
