New Holland NH 7018 – Transmission Control Module (TCM) or Main Control Module (MCC1 / MIU): Difflock driver over temperature

The internal electronic circuit inside the control module that supplies power to the Differential Lock Solenoid is overheating due to excessive current draw. This is almost always caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness leading to the solenoid, or an internal short within the Differential Lock Solenoid coil itself.

   Inspect the Differential Lock Solenoid connector for melted plastic, water ingress, or severe corrosion.

   Test the solenoid coil resistance with a digital multimeter. A reading near zero ohms indicates an internal short causing the module driver to overheat.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the solenoid back to the control module for pinched wires, chafed insulation, or melted wires shorting to ground.

   Check the cab differential lock switch for physical damage or erratic signals.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to protect the control module from further electrical spikes.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the differential lock solenoid on the hydraulic control valve block. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Unplug the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem and slide the electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (If the cartridge itself is leaking or damaged, it may need to be unthreaded and replaced as well).

   Install the New Solenoid

   Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostics revealed chafed wiring instead of a bad solenoid, cut out the damaged section, solder in new wire, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink tubing.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the solenoid electrical plug and the battery. Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard dash diagnostic menu) to clear the NH 7018 fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor and engage the differential lock (preferably on a loose surface like dirt or gravel) to verify the dash light illuminates and the code does not return.
