New Holland R-PTO 5002 – Armrest Controller (ARU) or Cab Controller (CCH): Rear PTO switch interlock

The control system detects conflicting inputs from the PTO switches, meaning the system sees that the In-Cab PTO switch and the Remote Fender PTO switch are registering as being activated at the exact same time.

   Inspect both the in-cab PTO switch and the external rear fender PTO switches for physical damage, packed dirt/debris, or a switch jammed in the ON position.

   Ensure that an operator or an object is not inadvertently pressing the fender switch while the cab switch is engaged.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear fender PTO switch. If the 5002 code changes to an open-circuit code (like 5006) or clears entirely, the fender switch is internally shorted and needs replacement.

   Use a multimeter to test the continuity of both the cab and fender switches to verify they open and close correctly without sticking or showing excessive resistance.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the fender switch to the cab controller for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper shorting to 12V or ground.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Access the Faulty Switch

   For the Fender Switch: Locate the switch on the rear fender. Remove the retaining bezel or the mounting screws holding the switch assembly to the fender housing. For the Cab Switch: Carefully pry the switch panel or armrest console open using a plastic trim tool to access the underside of the PTO command switch.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch. Inspect the harness connector pins for green corrosion, moisture intrusion, or melting. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Install the Replacement

   Connect the wiring harness to the new switch. Snap or screw the new switch back into its mounting location.

   Reassemble

   Reassemble any armrest console panels or fender trim that was removed. Reconnect the battery cable.

   Test Operation

   Turn the key to the ON position and verify that the 5002 fault code is no longer active. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement from the cab. Turn it off, then test the remote fender switch to ensure proper operation and that the interlock safety functions correctly.
