New Holland R-PTO 5005 – Rear PTO Controller: PTO remote fender switch short (CCH Only)

The electronic control system has detected a short circuit in the external Power Take-Off (PTO) switch located on the rear fender. The circuit is likely shorted to 12 volts or ground, or the switch itself has failed internally, sending a continuous unintended signal to the controller.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the rear fender switch to the CCH/TMF module for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or moisture ingress

   Disconnect the fender switch. If the active fault code changes from 5005 (Short) to 5006 (PTO remote fender switch open), the wiring is likely intact, and the switch itself is internally shorted

   Probe the disconnected switch with a multimeter. If there is continuity across the normally open pins without the button being pressed, the switch has failed closed and must be replaced

   Inspect the 4-pin connector at the switch for corrosion, dirt, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit

   Power down the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical surges.

   Locate the faulty remote PTO switch on the exterior rear fender.

   Reach behind the fender panel and disconnect the 4-pin electrical harness connector from the switch.

   Unscrew the heavy-duty threaded retaining collar/nut holding the switch in place and push the switch out of the fender housing.

   Insert the replacement switch into the fender mounting hole and secure it tightly with the retaining collar.

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector to prevent future moisture intrusion, then plug the wiring harness back into the switch.

   Reconnect the battery.

   Turn the ignition on, clear the stored fault codes from the CCH/TMF module, and test the fender switch to verify proper PTO engagement and disengagement.
