New Holland R-PTO 5006 – Rear PTO Controller or TMF (Tractor Management Frame): PTO remote fender switch open (CCH Only)

The controller has detected an open circuit in the rear PTO remote fender switch circuit. This means the electrical signal from the external PTO switch (located on the rear fender) is interrupted, either due to a disconnected wire, a broken wire in the harness, or an internal failure of the switch itself. "CCH Only" indicates this applies to configurations utilizing the Cab Control Harness.

   Visual Inspection: Locate the PTO remote switch on the rear fender. Check for obvious physical damage to the switch button or housing from debris or field hazards.

   Connector Check: Reach behind the fender panel and ensure the electrical connector is fully seated into the switch. Mud or vibration can sometimes dislodge it.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the fender switch back toward the cab. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or severed lines.

   Continuity Test: Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter (DMM) to test the switch for continuity. Actuate the switch to see if the circuit closes. If the DMM reads 'OL' (open loop) regardless of the button position, the switch has failed internally.

   Voltage Check: With the key ON, check the harness side of the connector for reference voltage to ensure the controller is sending a signal to the switch.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Switch

   Depending on the exact fender configuration, you may need to remove a protective plastic shroud or access panel on the underside of the rear fender to reach the back of the switch.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the PTO fender switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining nut, depending on the style) and push the switch out through the top of the fender.

   Install New Part

   Snap the new PTO remote fender switch into the mounting hole until it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness connector back into the new switch. Ensure the weather seal is intact and the locking tab clicks.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and clear the stored fault codes. Test the PTO engagement from the fender switch (following all safety protocols) to verify the repair.
