New Holland R-PTO 5008 – Rear PTO Controller (ATC / TMF): Both PTO On and Off switches are simultaneously on. One of the PTO switches is short to 12 volts.

A direct conflict in the Power Take-Off (PTO) switch circuit where the controller recognizes voltage bleeding into the wrong circuit, usually due to an internal switch failure or a wiring harness shorted to a 12V power source.

   Visually inspect the cab-mounted PTO switch and fender-mounted rear PTO switches for physical damage, sticking buttons, or water ingress.

   Perform a switch continuity test with the tractor off. If the switch shows continuity on both the ON and OFF output pins simultaneously, it has failed internally.

   Turn the key ON (engine off) and probe the switch harness connector to check for 12 volts on a signal return wire that should not have power.

   Trace the wiring harness from the PTO switch back to the ATC/PTO controller, looking for pinched, chafed, or melted wires shorting against a 12V supply wire.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry up the trim panel on the armrest console (or rear fender, if diagnosing the external switch) to access the underside of the PTO switch.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Unplug the electrical connector from the PTO switch. Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it up and out of the mounting bezel.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the harness rather than a bad switch, locate the chafed section of the wire. Splice and solder the damaged wire, then seal it with heat-shrink tubing.

   Install the New Switch

   Push the new OEM PTO switch into the console bezel until it clicks into place. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reinstall the armrest trim panel. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored error codes from the controller, and test the PTO system for normal operation.
