R-PTO 5011

New Holland R-PTO 5011 – TCU (Tractor Control Unit): Driver is on and no current is sensed.

Issue description

This code indicates that the control unit has commanded the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) solenoid driver to turn "ON", but it detects zero electrical current flowing through the circuit. This condition typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected wiring harness, or a completely failed (open) PTO solenoid coil.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8 Series (T8.275, T8.300, T8.330, T8.350, T8.360, T8.380, T8.390, T8.410, T8.420, T8.435)
  • New Holland T6 Series
  • New Holland T7 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running between the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) and the Rear PTO valve solenoid for physical damage, chafed wires, or loose connections.

  2. Disconnect the PTO solenoid and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO solenoid itself. An open circuit (infinite resistance/OL) indicates the solenoid coil has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the Rear PTO engagement solenoid valve on the rear transmission/PTO housing.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector in the harness, splice/repair the wiring to OEM standards, reconnect, and test.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (If Faulty)

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid tested as an open circuit, disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.

  5. Remove Fastener

Remove the retaining nut or fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

  6. Install New Solenoid

Slide the old solenoid off and install the new replacement solenoid.

  7. Secure Solenoid

Secure the retaining nut and plug the electrical connector back in.

  8. Verify Repair

Start the tractor, clear any stored fault codes, and engage the Rear PTO to ensure the code does not return and the PTO operates smoothly.
