New Holland R-PTO 5013 – Rear PTO Controller: Engine speed is too low for the PTO to be in the ‘on’ state.
Issue description
Triggers when the system detects that the engine speed is at 0 RPM (or stalled/shut down) while the PTO switch is still engaged in the "On" position.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- T4
- T5
- T6
- T7
- T8
- T9
- Magnum 235-340
- Steiger
- Maxxum
- Puma
Check the cause
Check for any other active error codes related to speed sensors. If present, diagnose and resolve those first
Verify PTO clutch pressure and PTO valve function to ensure there are no hydraulic or mechanical binding issues
Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor ENGINE SPEED RPM. Start the engine and compare the EST reading with the RPM displayed on the instrument cluster (they must match)
If the instrument cluster and EST show different engine speeds, check the wiring circuit between the alternator (terminal C177-1) and the instrument cluster (pin 25 of connector C051T) for faults
Repair steps
Place the PTO switch in the "Off" position.
Restart the engine.
Erase all fault codes using your diagnostic tool.
Test the operation of the PTO.
If the fault code does not return, the issue was likely a stall or improper shutdown sequence. Return the unit to field operation.
Check if the fault code re-displays immediately.
If it does, and you have verified that engine RPM readings match, the PTO shaft speed sensor is likely failing to report data correctly.
Locate the PTO speed sensor, which mounts near the rear PTO shaft housing.
Clean the area thoroughly to prevent hydraulic oil contamination.
Remove the faulty sensor and install the replacement.
Note: Pay close attention to the proper sensor gap from the tone wheel during installation; if it is too close or too far, it will cause erratic readings.
Clear all fault codes again and test PTO operation.
