New Holland R-PTO 5014 – Rear PTO Controller: PTO is commanded off but the PTO speed greater than zero.

The tractor's control system has sent the signal to disengage the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO), but the PTO speed sensor is still detecting shaft rotation. This points to either a false sensor reading, a failed PTO brake, or a dragging PTO clutch.

   Safely observe the PTO shaft when the tractor is running and the PTO is commanded OFF to determine if the shaft is actually spinning.

   If the shaft is NOT spinning (electrical fault): Check the PTO speed sensor and wiring harness for faults, shorts, or interference.

   If the shaft IS spinning (hydraulic/mechanical fault): Test the PTO control valve for a stuck spool or blown internal O-rings.

   If the valve operates correctly (mechanical fault): Perform a clutch drag test to check for warped friction plates or worn brake piston pads.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear PTO housing.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the 3-pin wiring harness connector.

   Replace sensor

   Unthread the faulty sensor and install the replacement.

   Verify repair

   Clear the fault codes and verify the sensor reads '0 RPM' when the PTO is off.

   Remove valve

   Remove the PTO control valve assembly from the rear housing.

   Inspect spools

   Disassemble the valve and inspect the spools for scoring or sticking.

   Replace O-rings

   Replace all internal O-rings (a common failure point that bleeds brake pressure).

   Reinstall and test

   Reinstall the valve assembly and test PTO engagement/disengagement.

   Drain fluid

   Drain the rear hydraulic/transmission fluid.

    Remove housing

    Unbolt and remove the rear PTO unit housing from the tractor.

    Inspect clutch and brake

    Disassemble the clutch carrier drum. Inspect the three brake piston pads (facing up) and the clutch friction plates.

    Replace worn parts

    Replace worn brake pads and warped clutch plates.

    Replace seal rings

    Replace the Teflon seal rings on the drum. (Note: To install new Teflon rings without breaking them, warm them in hot water to gently stretch them over the drum, then use a radiator hose clamp with a thin piece of plastic to compress them back to size).

    Reassemble and refill

    Reassemble the PTO housing, bolt it back to the tractor, and refill the fluids.
