New Holland R-PTO 5015 – Rear PTO Controller: The software has not detected PTO shaft speed for greater than 3 seconds since the PTO initial fill valve was commanded.

The control module sent the electrical command to the PTO initial fill valve to engage the PTO clutch, but the PTO speed sensor is reporting 0 RPM after a 3-second window. This points to either an electrical issue (speed sensor or wiring failure) if the shaft is spinning, or a hydraulic/mechanical issue (initial fill valve failure, pressure loss, or clutch failure) if the shaft is not spinning.

   Visual/Operational Check: Engage the PTO and safely observe if the shaft is physically spinning. If it spins but the code logs, the issue is electrical; if it does not spin at all, the issue is hydraulic/mechanical.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Check the wiring harness leading to the PTO speed sensor for chafing, corrosion, or an open/short circuit.

   Sensor Inspection: Remove the PTO speed sensor and inspect the tip. Look for a cracked tip or physical damage caused by internal contact with the tone wheel.

   Valve Check: If the sensor tests fine, check the PTO initial fill valve solenoid for proper resistance and verify it is receiving 12V when commanded.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Sensor

   The PTO speed sensor is located on the right side of the rear axle housing, near the PTO stub shaft. Note: On some models, you may need to remove a hydraulic filter or protective shielding to gain clear access to the sensor.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission housing.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unthread and remove the faulty sensor. These can be extremely tight due to heat cycling and thread sealant.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new sensor into the housing. Ensure the proper air gap from the tone wheel is maintained (if adjustable on your specific model).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place. Reinstall any hydraulic filters or shields that were removed.

   Reconnect the battery, clear the stored fault codes, and engage the PTO to verify the speed registers on the cab display without throwing the 5015 code.
