New Holland R-PTO 5018 – Rear PTO Controller / ATC (Alta Implement / Armrest / Transmission Controller): PTO speed sensors wiring swapped (CCH Only)

This fault code indicates a wiring configuration error where the controller detects that the wiring harness connectors for the PTO speed sensors have been plugged into the wrong sensors. This typically occurs on tractors equipped with a dual-speed PTO (e.g., 540 RPM and 1000 RPM) when the connectors are inadvertently swapped during maintenance or repair.

   Inspect the wiring harness at the rear PTO housing where the PTO speed sensors are mounted.

   Determine if the rear PTO housing, sensors, or wiring harness were recently serviced, removed, or replaced (this code is almost always the result of human error during reassembly).

   Check the wiring harness connectors against an OEM wiring diagram to verify which connector belongs to the 540 RPM sensor and which belongs to the 1000 RPM sensor.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the machine is safely parked with the parking brake engaged.

   Locate Sensors

   Locate the PTO speed sensors on the rear PTO housing.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the wiring harness connectors from the PTO speed sensors.

   Swap Connectors

   Reroute and swap the connectors to their correct respective sensors (plug the 540 RPM harness connector into the 540 RPM sensor, and the 1000 RPM harness connector into the 1000 RPM sensor).

   Secure Wiring

   Ensure the connectors click into place securely and that the wiring harness is zip-tied or routed away from moving PTO components.

   Turn the tractor back on, clear the fault codes from the ATC/Rear PTO module, and engage the PTO to verify that the shaft size frequency is detected correctly and the code does not return.
