New Holland R-PTO 5023 – Rear PTO module / Tractor Control Unit (TCU): PTO clutch lube solenoid circuit shorted to B+ when PTO is in the off state. (4WD Only).

The control module is detecting battery voltage (B+) on the PTO clutch lube solenoid circuit when the Power Take-Off (PTO) switch is turned off. Because the circuit should not be energized in the "off" state, the system flags a short-to-power condition.

   Verify charging system and power supply to ensure no external power supplies are improperly back-feeding the system and the alternator is not overcharging.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the TCU to the PTO clutch lube solenoid for rubbed-through wire insulation shorting the power or ground circuits to a 12V battery source (B+).

   Disconnect the PTO clutch lube solenoid and test it with a multimeter for internal shorts.

   Check the output pins on the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) to verify if the controller itself is internally shorted and sending voltage when it should not be.

   Isolate the Short

   Based on the diagnostic checks, locate the source of the short to B+.

   Repair or Replace

   If the harness is damaged, repair the wiring and apply heat-shrink tubing. If the solenoid is internally shorted, replace the PTO clutch lube solenoid assembly. If the TCU is internally faulted, replace the controller (Note: a new controller will require transmission clutch calibration, which triggers code 2024 until completed).

   Clear Codes

   Once the physical repair is made, connect the service tool to the diagnostic connector and clear the error code.

   Test Operation

   Test the PTO system for normal operation. Ensure the fault code does not re-display when the PTO is toggled on and off.
