New Holland R-PTO 5027 – Rear PTO Control Module: Low side of PTO solenoid connected permanently to GND

Indicates a short-to-ground condition on the ground-side (low side) control circuit of the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. The controller is detecting that the circuit is grounded even when it is not actively commanding the PTO to engage.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO solenoid (at the rear of the transmission housing) for obvious signs of chafing, melting, or pinched wires against the chassis.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the PTO solenoid, turn the key ON, and check for 12V at the supply side of the connector.

   With the solenoid disconnected, use a multimeter to test the low-side (ground control) wire of the harness for continuity to ground to check for a harness short.

   If the harness does not show a short, test the resistance across the pins of the PTO solenoid itself to check for an internal coil failure shorting to its grounded casing.

   Ensure Safety

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.

   Access the Solenoid

   Locate the Rear PTO solenoid valve on the hydraulic distribution block at the rear of the tractor.

   Harness Repair (If applicable)

   If the diagnostic tests proved the harness is shorted, trace the low-side wire back toward the Rear PTO module. Locate the chafed section, cut out the damaged wire, solder in a replacement section, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing. Secure the harness away from sharp metal edges.

   Solenoid Replacement (If applicable)

   If the solenoid coil is internally shorted: Thoroughly clean the area around the PTO solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge (if replacing just the coil) or unthread the entire electro-valve assembly if replacing the whole unit. Install the new OEM solenoid/valve, ensuring any O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Tighten to OEM torque specifications and reconnect the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the key ON, use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard 'H' diagnostic menu to clear the R-PTO 5027 fault code. Start the tractor and test the Rear PTO engagement to verify the repair.
