New Holland R-PTO 5030 – CCH (Central Controller Hub) / Rear PTO controller: Shaft size speed sensor open or short to Vbat(CCH Only)

The controller is detecting an abnormal voltage on the PTO shaft size speed sensor circuit. The signal voltage is either too high (shorted to battery voltage / Vbat) or the circuit is completely broken/open, which often causes the voltage to default high on a pull-up circuit.

   Visually inspect the rear PTO shaft size speed sensor, its electrical connector, and the wiring harness for obvious physical damage, corrosion, or disconnected pins.

   Perform a voltage check: With the key ON, backprobe the sensor signal wire. If voltage is near battery voltage, disconnect the sensor and measure the signal wire voltage at the harness side. If voltage remains high, suspect a short to Vbat in the wiring harness.

   Check sensor resistance/continuity: With the sensor disconnected, measure the sensor's internal resistance. If it reads out of tolerance or open (infinite resistance), the sensor has failed internally.

   Test the ground circuit integrity: A broken ground wire can cause the signal voltage to float high to battery voltage.

   Perform a wiggle test: Wiggle the harness and connectors while monitoring live data on a diagnostic tool to check for intermittent wiring faults.

   Turn off the tractor and locate the shaft size speed sensor on the rear PTO housing.

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector.

   Repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector.

   Perform this if the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue (e.g., a wire shorted to power or a broken wire).

   Remove the mounting hardware and extract the old sensor from the PTO housing.

   Perform this if the sensor itself tested open or faulty.

   Install the new OEM replacement sensor and secure it.

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

   Clear the fault codes from the CCH/PTO module using a diagnostic scan tool or the tractor's display.

   Perform a function test by operating the PTO to verify the correct shaft size is recognized and the code does not return.
