New Holland R-PTO 5031 – Rear PTO Controller / TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Shaft size speed sensor short to GND (CCH Only)

The control system has detected a short circuit to ground on the electrical circuit belonging to the Rear PTO's shaft size speed sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Rear PTO shaft size speed sensor for physical damage, rubbed-through insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to the chassis.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion that could bridge the signal wire to the ground wire.

   With the sensor disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the signal wire of the harness. If the short remains, the harness is damaged. If it disappears, the sensor has failed internally.

   Locate the PTO shaft size speed sensor at the rear PTO housing assembly.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness issue, trace the wire back to the TCU, locate the chafed/shorted section, and repair the wiring using OEM-approved splicing techniques.

   If the sensor is internally shorted, unbolt/unscrew the faulty PTO speed sensor from the housing.

   Install the new OEM PTO speed sensor and tighten it to the specified torque.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Restore battery power, turn the key on, and clear the stored fault codes from the TCU.
