New Holland SFA 10002 – SFA (Suspended Front Axle) Controller: Front suspension rod Side Valve solenoid is open circuit or shorted to ground

The controller is unable to properly actuate the rod side valve of the front suspension system because it has detected an electrical fault. The circuit is either broken/disconnected (open circuit) or the power feed wire/solenoid coil has chafed and is making direct contact with the tractor's chassis (shorted to ground).

   Inspect the wiring harness routing from the SFA controller down to the front suspension hydraulic valve block for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the rod side valve solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit, while 0 ohms indicates an internal short.

   With the solenoid disconnected and the tractor key OFF, check for continuity between the solenoid's supply wire in the harness and the tractor's chassis ground to test for a shorted harness.

   Park and secure tractor

   Park the tractor on a hard, level surface. Lower all implements to the ground, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate valve block

   Locate the front suspension control valve block assembly on the front axle.

   Identify solenoid

   Identify the rod side valve solenoid (refer to the specific model's hydraulic schematic if the block has multiple identical solenoids).

   Unplug connector

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

   Remove faulty solenoid

   Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (If the cartridge itself is leaking or mechanically seized, unscrew the entire cartridge from the valve block).

   Install new solenoid

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut (do not over-tighten, as this can distort the coil).

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring it clicks into place and the weather seal is intact.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

    Clear fault code

    Turn the ignition ON and use the tractor's onboard diagnostic display (or a service tool) to clear the SFA 10002 fault code.

    Test operation

    Start the tractor and test the front suspension operation. Note: A front suspension calibration may be required after replacing valve components.
